Hurricane Season 2022

When Does the Hurricane Season Begin?

The 2022 Hurricane season starts June 1st – November 30th.

What Does This 2022 Hurricane Season Look Like?

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Atlantic is predicted to have many hurricanes this season. Currently, the above normal level of hurricane activity is estimated to increase by 65%. The NOAA is predicting roughly 14-21 upcoming storms, which 6-10 of those storms may potentially turn into hurricanes.

How Can We Prepare For a Hurricane?

  1. Establish a plan

It’s important to plan ahead of a hurricane in terms of establishing emergency contacts, knowing the closest evacuation routes, and locating nearby shelters.

  1. Pack emergency supplies

Hurricanes can be unpredictable, so it’s best to be equipped with emergency supplies. Main supplies to pack can be food, water, medicine, flashlights, candles, clothes, and other personal items.

  1. Fill up your tank

Make sure to fill your tank up in your vehicle beforehand so you can be prepared to make a quick evacuation if needed.

  1. Prepare your home

To prevent minimal damage to your home, it’s vital to make preparations. Most common preparations can be to clear your yard of personal items, cover up all windows with wood or shutters, fill containers or bath tub with clean water in case water shuts off, and have a generator readily available if the power goes out.

  1. Be ready to leave or stay put

Pay close attention to emergency messages and be prepared to evacuate if advised. If roads are too dangerous to drive, then be prepared to stay put and wait out the storm.
